This handsome double house was constructed ca. 1890 in a Colonial Revival style. The house features flanking wings with galleries, a modillioned cornice, and pedimented dormers.
In the early 20th century house number 153 (on the right) was the home of prominent furniture-store owner Edward C. Westenberger and wife Amanda (Hammond) Westenberger. Mr. Westenberger was a founder of the furniture and carpet store named Westenberger, Maley, and Myers. This Lancaster store was known as the largest store of its type between Philadelphia and Pittsburg.
