This landmark house was once home to Lancaster's first organization devoted exclusively to the development of local artists: The Lancaster County Art Association.
The Art Association was founded in 1936 by Miss Mary Black Diller. The Association funded the purchase of this house in 1954 by conducting tours of local historic homes and landmarks during their annual Lancaster County Day. They met here until 1998, when the organization moved to Strasburg where it continues today.
This brick double house was built ca. 1825 as rental property by Dr. Clarkson Freeman. It features a gallery across the second floor. A wooden yellow pump stands by the front steps. The house is an unusual urban variation of a rural Pennsylvania bank house.
