The wealthy brewery owner Joseph Wacker Jr. and wife Mary Wacker lived in this comfortable townhouse for many decades, beginning in the 1880s. The Wacker Brewery was one of Lancaster’s most successful breweries. German-American immigrants like the Wacker family turned Lancaster into a beer-brewing Mecca.
The house, built ca. 1885, features a wrap-around porch supported by paired columns, a polygonal projecting bay on the second floor, applied wooden wreaths on the frieze of the bay window, a mansard roof with bracketed cornice, a pedimented entry with a cartouche and a dentilled cornice.
