This landmark house is one of the best-known 1-1/2 story homes in Lancaster. According to the book Our Present Past this house was built ca. 1825. It was “most likely built by Charles Stoes (Stoce) as part of a double house.”
A historical marker in front of this dwelling explains that in the early 1800s most local houses were of this type. The home’s Federal-style interior has survived.
The floorplan is published in the book Architecture and Landscape of the Pennsylvania Germans.
The house has a pedimented dormer with round-arched upper sash, a round-arched entry with fanlight, and paneled shutters.
