This finely crafted residence is a historic home of the Steinman family, Lancaster’s prominent family of newspaper publishing. Andrew Jackson Steinman bought and enlarged this home in 1882, when he married Caroline Morgan Hale.
Their son, James Hale Steinman, was born here in 1886, as stated on a plaque by the front door. He was the father of civic leaders Caroline Steinman Nunan (deceased) and Peggy Steinman.
Stained glass windows are in the Queen Anne style with small, multiple panes surrounding central panes. The keystones are brownstone. The entry is pedimented and pilastered.
