420 Race Avenue Lancaster, PA

Architect C. Emlen Urban designed this home ca. 1914 as the home for his sister Katherine L. (Urban) Shirk and her husband Jacob G. Shirk. Emlen Urban lived next-door with his family in a home he built at l009 Buchanan Ave.
John H. Hartman and Marian Hartman lived here next, after the Shirks moved to New York State. In 1910 Mr. Hartman had become president of Hubley Manufacturing Co. which produced cast iron toys, etc.
This is one of the most spacious Colonial Revival homes in the city of Lancaster. The home faces Buchanan Park. A Palladian-style window is centered above a portico with balcony railing. Thanks to Deb Oesch for providing this information about C. Emlen Urban. 420 Race Avenue  Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
