Huegel Alumni House
F&M College Lancaster, Pennsylvania
This former President’s House at F&M College was designed by Philadelphia-based architect Samuel Sloan in 1871.
Architect C. Emlen Urban remodeled the house in 1919. Urban designed this Colonial Revival porch to replace Sloan’s Queen Anne-style porch. Emlen Urban is Lancaster’s most important homegrown architect.
Samuel Sloan previously designed Lancaster’s Fulton Theater and the Lancaster County Courthouse, in the 1850s.
In the 1870s Samuel Sloan also designed F&M’s Harbaugh Hall which was the college’s first dormitory. At that time he designed the Academy Building on campus for the prep school. Harbaugh Hall and the Academy Building do not survive today.
This home was used as the F&M President’s House from 1919 to 1966. Today this building is the Huegel Alumni House. A magnolia flowers here each spring. 451 Old Main Dr. (Building #5) Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
