By the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County:
“St. John’s Lutheran Church, 223 West Orange Street, Lancaster; 1853; [replaced by present building in 1895]; two story, three bay stone / brick Gothic Revival church; stone gable end facade on brick building; polygonal tower on east end; square bell tower on west end; towers have battlements, lancet openings, and finials; central paired lancet entry doors with art glass windows all set in a recessed lancet; large lancet art glass window above tripartite window in gable; numerous cross gables; side elevations have stone arches, sills, and water table; 1853 datestone [of the earlier building].” Our Present Past, page 451, Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County.
